No cicadas yet

Heuchera with wild geranium and Solomon's seal

The heuchera (foreground) is in bloom; the wild geranium (top) is still in bloom; the Solomon’s seal (Polygonatum biflorum – upper right) has loads of unopened buds.

No cicadas are evident in my neighborhood yet, but perhaps the cold weather we had a few days ago is keeping them underground. I’m not in any hurry to start pulling them out of the pond or crunching them while walking to the El! I wouldn’t mind a little rain, though – half an inch for all of May so far is just not enough.
